Mayor Eddie Beckwith, Jr. premiered a showing of a new DVD presentation at the City Council meeting last week that tells in words, music and photos the massive city-wide action currently taking place to clean up the blights in Tallulah.

The presentation begins with a slide show of beautiful scenic shots of Tallulah, with a music bed of "What a Wonderful World" sung by Louis Armstrong. Then the presentation takes a sharp contrast and shows "the pitifully blighted Tallulah," with a series of photos of the eye sores and blighted properties in Tallulah, with a music bed of Isaac Hayes' "Theme from Shaft."

Photos depicting various types of blights were shown, for junk and inoperable cars; inoperable cars parked on city streets blocking a lane of traffic; tall grass, weeds and noxious growth; unsafe structures; and trash dumps on vacant lots.

Then the presentation focuses on the topic of tall grass, weeds and noxious growth, because this is

where property owners can do the most good at
at the "grass-roots level" (no pun intended) complying with the ordinances.

Step-by-step the presentation tells property owners the process of holding them responsible for the maintenance of their properties, and the costly consequences they face is they don't comply.

The presentation concludes by once again presenting a slide show of beautiful scenes of Tallulah, followed by a graphic that reads: "We may be one of the poorest cities in our great country, but we don't have to act like it."

Mayor Beckwith, the city council members, and Stan Livingston are welcoming invitations to make the presentation to schools, churches, civic organizations, and other organizations. They will welcome your group to the city council chamber at city hall for the presentation, or they will come to a meeting of your organization by advance appointment.
