A long-time dream became a reality for the Tallulah Fire Department when its sparkling new red and chrome fire truck recently rolled into town and the keys were turned over to Mayor Eddie Beckwith, Jr. It was the city's first new fire truck in more than 35 years. The purchase of the new fire truck was made possible by a loan from USDA.
The Tallulah Fire Department now has five operational fire trucks, and all of the fire fighters are now certified by completing comprehensive training at the Monroe Firefighter Academy. It is the first time anyone can recall when all of the fire fighters were certified.
The certification of the fire fighters and the upgraded fire fighting equipment has led to the Tallulah Fire Department to be named the official fire department of Madison Parish.
Because of the personnel and equipment improvements, the city's fire rating
has been elevated from a level 7 to a level 5 rating which saves each property
owner about $50 a year in fire protection insurance costs.
